The Zion Conservatory of Music:
Policies and Procedures
Payment Policy:
The Conservatory year is based on 36 weekly lesson from September through May. Lessons are paid in
nine monthly installments due the 8th of each month. Teachers set their own fees and the same fee is to be paid every
month, regardless of the number of lessons taken.
All checks should be made out to the Zion Conservatory of Music or ZCM. Fees may be turned in at the church office from
9 am - 5 pm, Monday through Friday. After hours, payments may be dropped in the metal box ourside the office, or mailed to the
Conservatory at 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion, Illinois 60099. Payments must be in by the 8th of each month or a $5 late
fee will be charged.
Attendance Policy:
Students are expected to be present for all scheduled lessons. Some teachers will make up missed lessons if
advance notice is given, but teachers are not required to make up lessons missed by the student. This includes
vacations, school/sport events, illness or tardiness. A reserved lesson slot is contracted time and does not warrant a refund
or make-up lesson if the student cancels. If a student must cancel a lesson, he must contact the teacher at least 24 hours in
advance. Last minute cancellations due to illness or emergency should be called into the Conservatory office.
If a lesson is cancelled by the teacher, he must offer a date for a make-up lesson. If a date cannot be arranged, credit for
for the amount of the lessons will be given at the end of the Conservatory year.
Discontinuing Lessons:
If a student decides to stop lessons with the Conservatory for any reason, two weeks notice must be
given to the teacher and the Conservatory office. A refund for lessons not attended will not be issued if proper notification is not
given.
Good Conduct:
Good manners and courtesy are expected of all students. No running or wandering in the conservatory/church
buildings. Smoking is not permitted in the building or on the grounds.
Use of any equipment in the building is only permitted under the supervision of your teacher. Rooms or instruments must be
reserved through the Conservatory secretary.
Good Communication with Your Teacher:
Any quiestions or concerns you have about your lesson schedule, lesson content, or musical progress should
be addressed to your teacher. Good communication is key. Speak to your teacher right away if you are unclear about his
directions or expectations. Most concerns can be worked out when addressed in a timely and friendly manner. Only when
there is a serious conflict, should the Dean of the Conservatory be contacted. If a student-teacher incompatibility arises,
a new teacher may be assigned based on availability and in consultation with the Dean.
